Survey : Where does your waste produce go?

Leeds city markets : after speaking to a few vendors down at the leeds city markets, I found that the general consensus was that they don't tend to have much or even any waste left at the end of a day. When food starts to get past its best, it is bagged up and sold for a fraction of the price. Any left overs after this are taken home by the vendors for themselves.

R.K.Harris & Sons : this greengrocers and caterers in Headingley gave a very similar response. Little is wasted because when things begin to go bad they tend to be sold off at a discount. I was surprised at how easy it is to get rid of all your stock without having to waste food by chucking it away. Also, obviously these independent retailers have the added benefit of being able to eat their own left overs, while supermarket staff dont as it is against their rules and regulations.

Headingley Farm Butchers : it was really interesting speaking to the butcher in there. They too have almost no waste, and what is left tends to go to be made into dog food. He really liked my idea of promoting less popular cuts of meat. He commented on the efforts to raise awareness about cooking things like that on the television and that only the other day a male student came in asking for much less common cuts, evidently a result of this kind of promotion.
